Big Data Engineer (Milan, Italy) 

We are looking to add a skilled and passionate Big Data Engineer to our team in Milan. This individual must be able to design, implement, maintain, and scale systems and algorithms for ingesting, analyzing, and serving large volumes of mobile, desktop and behavioral data.  Candidates must be able to work proactively to define and build products powered by geographic data. As as well as identifying interesting and emerging behaviors from our user base.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain pipelines and systems that support the ingestion and analysis of mobile data
  • Build and maintain terabyte-scale, distributed systems for matching and optimization algorithm and predictive modeling
  • Collaborate with data architects and data scientists to design and build analytic systems that are correct, scalable, reliable, and accurate
  • Analyze large datasets to identify opportunities to tune and improve the system
  • Identify the optimal approach for extracting valuable insights from Big data
  • Continuously improve privacy and security for our platform

Required Skills:

  • 2-3+ years of experience developing products in the data/analytics/graphing space
  • Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, machine learning, and statistical methods
  • Expert-level knowledge of Java and the JVM platform (further languages running on JVM are welcome)
  • Well aware of modern software development practices and committed to produce high-quality deliverables
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, and excellent communication skills across multiple media
  • Attitude for teamwork both with technical and non-technical peers
  • Flexible, startup mindset with proven success in fast-paced environments
  • Working knowledge of some or all: Java, AWS Services, Hadoop or Spark
  • At ease with industry standard software development tools (IDEs, VCS, etc.)
  • English professional proficiency
  • BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience
